Wekesa, 43, had attended a school function in Webuye town on Friday evening. Later that night, he fell ill in a hotel room at Satellite Hotel and was rushed to Webuye Sub-County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police say he had spent the evening with a 28-year-old woman at two entertainment spots before checking into the hotel. A postmortem later confirmed he died of cardiac arrest. The woman was held to assist with investigations, but authorities say the cause was medical, not foul play.
Hiscolleagues and students have described him as a father figure who was always concerned of their wellbeing and alsopushed them to become better
He leaves behind his wife, Rachel Nekesa, and four children. Rachel described him as a loving husband and dependable father whose death has left the family shattered.
Bungoma KUPPET officials have used his death to urge teachers to go for regular health check-ups, saying many ignore early warning signs due to work pressure.
Burial plans are yet to be announced. For now, St. Cecilia is in mourning, remembering a teacher who gave his time and energy to the girls under his care.

Evans Kawala, better known as “Kidero Jasuba,” went missing on the evening of 26 May 2026 in Kayole, Nairobi.
The Bunge la Mwananchi activist was picked up near Shujaa Mall by men in plain clothes. For hours his phone was off, and rumors of an abduction spread fast. Governor James Orengo accused the state of targeting Kawala for speaking out against President Ruto’s government at Jacaranda Grounds.
By Wednesday afternoon, the DCI confirmed he was in custody. Officials said he was arrested lawfully over inflammatory remarks posted online that they claim threatened public peace and national stability. He was taken by the Operations Support Unit and remains held pending arraignment.
Kawala, 33, is known for his sharp criticism at Bunge la Mwananchi forums. His supporters say he was targeted for his voice. The DCI says he crossed a legal line.
The incident has reignited debate on free speech and how dissent is handled in Kenya. For now, Kawala awaits court, and Jacaranda Grounds waits for its loudest voice to return.
