Besieged Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol has been impeached on Thursday 8th June 2023 in a motion chaired by the Yimbo East MCA, Francis Otieno in Siaya.
This is after all the 42 members of the Siaya County Assembly (MCAs) voted to remove him from office, in a motion premised on grounds of gross violation of constitution and other laws, abuse of office and gross misconduct and misleading the public by giving false information.
During the deliberations on the report, Siaya MCAs, one after the other, supported Mr. Oduol’s removal accusing him of being a dishonest leader who was only out to advance his selfish gains.
Some of them accused the Deputy Governor of character assassination, adding that he had not only dented the image of Governor Orengo, but also those of the MCAs that he accused of having been compromised.
MCAs from Alego/Usonga Constituency stated that Mr. Oduol’s wrangles with his boss had become a thorn in their flesh, saying that the whole war had placed them in very bad light.
“For the stability of this county of heroes; for the prosperity and growth; for the protection of the image of the people of Siaya; for the realization of the Manifesto, one William Odhiambo Oduol must go,” Onguru said in a charged speech.
If the Senate upholds impeachment he will be the first Deputy Governor to be impeached since the establishment of devolution.
