President William Ruto now wants a public vote by MPs on the Finance Bill 2023 when it is tabled in Parliament this week on 15th as he threatened to deal with MPs  who oppose this bill.

Speaking Sunday during a church service in Leshuta, Narok County, the president said Azimio La Umoja allied leaders opposing the bill are doing so just because they are in the opposition.

“Even those in the opposition love the housing plan and if Azimio was in power, they would be saying what I am saying,” he said.

“We need to pass this bill so Kenya can develop. There are some suggestions that MPs should disclose how they voted when the bill is tabled in parliament, but personally, I am waiting to see any MP who will shut down that bill,” added the president.

The Bill proposes a number of changes that will see differant taxes imposed on Kenyans in various sectors which will likely result a higher cost of living, and a disproportionate impact on low-income households who are struggling with the current economy.

It was presented to Parliament for its first reading on May 4, 2023 and the country is striving to meet its Sh3.6 trillion proposed budget  for the Financial Year 2023/2024, to be delivered on Thursday, 15th June 2023.
