Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado has been freed on a cash bail alongside his co-accused after denying fraud charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi. Obado alongside his co-accused are alleged to have pocketed over Ksh. 73.4million public money.
Obado and his children were slapped a total of Ksh 18.25million while the other accused a total of Ksh. 26.75million.The prosecution objected the decision by the court on releasing of Obado arguing that he is a man of influence and may end up interefering with the investigations. Prosecution also pointed out that most of the witnesses in the case against the governor are county employees.
Magistrate Mugambi however on his side ruled that an appropriate condition will be put in place to ensure that the accused do not interfere with the witnesses.
