An unusual display was witnessed in Parliament on Thursday 15th June, after a section of Azimio MPs walked out of the House during the reading of the 2023/24 budget.
Trouble started as soon as Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u went to the podium to read the budget.
While making his introduction, Ndung’u mentioned that the budget was the first under the Kenya Kwanza regime, a statement that seemed to irritate the Azimio legislators who started jeering.
“It is a great honour and privilege for me to present to the House and the people of Kenya the first budget of the Kenya Kwanza administration….,” said Ndung’u.
Efforts by Speaker Moses Wetangula to bring the House to order proved futile as the Azimio MPs stormed out of the building.
After the dust settled, Wetangula instructed CS Ndung’u to proceed with the budget reading to which he obliged.
