Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a public holiday to allow the nation to join our Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating Eid-ul-Adha.
The announcement, formalised through a Kenya Gazette notice, was shared as the CS joined the congregation at AIC Makueni in North Imenti to mark their 8th anniversary. This gesture ensures that families across the country have the time to step away from their daily routines to focus on prayer, reflection, and community.
At its heart, Eid-ul-Adha Festival of Sacrifices a beautiful reminder of the power of faith and devotion. It honours the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, a moment of ultimate surrender that was met with divine mercy.
Today, this spirit lives on through the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca and in the quiet, early morning prayers held in mosques and open fields across Kenya.Beyond the religious rites, the day is defined by immense generosity and kindness.
Many families will participate in the tradition of slaughtering livestock, ensuring that the meat is shared equally with those in need, as well as with friends and neighbours. It is a time when the values of compassion and unity take centre stage, bringing people together to share meals and support one another in a powerful display of shared humanity.
