Wetangula: ‘The Body Is Willing But The Spirit Is Weak’ On Chances of Working with raila

Is Moses Wetangula certain that he and former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga can work together again before the country’s August general elections?

According to Wetangula, in the complex game of politics, nothing is written in stone, therefore the idea of his cooperating with Odinga, although unlikely, cannot be rejected totally.

According to Wetangula, “in politics, you never say never, but sometimes Jesus said, the body is willing, but the spirit is weak.”

As for his dismissal as Senate minority leader in 2018, Wetangula said that it still haunts him. Odinga, he said, arranged it.

James Orengo succeeded Wetangula in what the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) co-principal called a humiliating dismissal at the time.

“What Raila and his crew did to me in the Senate was extremely embarrassing, and it harmed many of the people I represent,” she said. People who vote for me in my district and county are confident in my abilities, Wetangula said.

Even so, the Ford Kenya leader admitted that he does not have the capacity to hold grudges against Odinga, saying that he would follow in Jomo Kenyatta’s footsteps when referencing the brutality he suffered at the hands of British Colonial masters prior to independence. Kenyatta died in office in 1997.

He remembered the previous president’s remarks, “We forgive readily, but the ability to forget is low,” as a person who suffered at their hands and as a country that has been humiliated by their hands.

Wetangula says that the OKA coalition was merely created to dissuade Odinga’s political endeavors was disputed by him, noting the principle members’ similar interests and unshakeable faith in each other as the reasons for its formation instead.

“Forming a party on the basis of aspersions is foolish,” he continued, “because the responsibilities would be too great when you are bearing the enormous loads in the political landscapes of Kenya.

Odinga’s coalition allies have severe issues about the way the handshake was staged, as CORD and NASA have said. ” No true explanation or accounting for ODM’s arrogant management and handling of parties’ funds has ever been given.

Ford-Kenya and Wiper have never gotten a penny from the CORD alliance, despite ODM receiving the funding, and this is not something that any party would quickly forget or forgive.

Wetangula acknowledged that Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto are more prominent in the fight for the president since they stated their intentions to run for the presidency much earlier, but he said that OKA might produce a significant upset at the elections.

It doesn’t matter who begins the race first if you want to win a race. It’s who crosses the finish line first.” People that start out fast tend to be passed by by others who are serious about finishing first, especially in a marathon. According to Wetangula, “OKA are the true contenders for the 2022 World Cup,” he believes.
