Here’s an overview of their history and some of the companies associated with the Rothschild family: The Rothschild family originated with Mayer Amschel Rothschild (1744–1812) at Frankfurt in Germany. He established a banking business in the late 18th century, laying the foundation for what would become one of the most powerful and wealthy banking dynasties in Europe.
- The five sons of Mayer Amschel Rothschild expanded the family’s banking empire across Europe:
– Amschel Mayer Rothschild (1773–1855) in Frankfurt,
– Salomon Mayer Rothschild (1774–1855) in Vienna,
– Nathan Mayer Rothschild (1777–1836) in London,
– Calmann Mayer Rothschild (1788–1855) in Naples and
– Jakob Mayer Rothschild (1792–1868) in Paris.
Each son managed a branch of the family’s banking business, which facilitated significant financial transactions, including loans to governments and large-scale investments across various industries.
Rothschild & Co: Founded in 1811 by Nathan Mayer Rothschild in London, this banking and financial services company continues to operate globally, providing advisory and wealth management services.
NM Rothschild & Sons: This is the British branch of Rothschild & Co, which has been involved in various financial activities, including mergers and acquisitions, asset management and private banking.
Rothschild Frères: Founded by James Mayer de Rothschild (1792–1868) in Paris, this banking institution played a significant role in financing industrialization and infrastructure projects in France.
Rothschild Bank AG: Established in Switzerland, this bank provides private banking and asset management services.
Rothschild & Cie Banque: The French branch of Rothschild & Co, known for its advisory services in mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and wealth management.

- The Bayerische Motoren Werke(BMW): It was masterminded in 1916. BMW has been under the Quandt family’s control for years. They have played pivotal growth, leadership and strategies decisions in the iconic motor company.
- The Este’e Lauder: It was founded in 1946 by Este’e and Joseph Lauder . Este’e Lauder’s companies have been managed, controlled and expanded by their descendants. The family’s members still today make key decisions.
- The Ford Motor Company: In 1903 in the USA, Sir Henry Ford masterminded the Ford Motor Company which is headquartered at Dearborn, Michigan in the USA. On Tuesday dated the sixth of June the year 1903, the Ford Motor Company was inaugurated.
- The H&M(Hennes & Mauritz): It was founded in 1947 by Erling Persson in Sweden. H&M is governed by the Persson’s family. H&M is one of the largest global fashions’ retailers.
- The Hutchison Whampoa(CK Hutchison Holdings, currently): It was founded in Hong Kong in 1863 by Mr. John Duflon Hutchison. The company has been controlled by the affluent Hong Kong-based Li Ka-shing’s family for generations. It has diverse business’ interests including, however not limited to: ports, retail and telecommunications.
- The LVMH(Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton): It was founded in 1987 through the amalgamation of fashion jetty Louis Vuitton and the beverages’ conglomerate Moet Hennessy. LVMH is governed by the Arnault family. Mr. Bernard Arnault has been instrumental in its growth to becoming the global largest luxury goods’ company.
- The Mars, Inc.: It was established in 1911 by Frank Clarence Mars. Mars, Inc. remains a family-owned enterprise with the Mars’ family controlling it. They are reputed for these brands: Mars, M&Ms and Snickers.
- The Roche: It was founded in 1896 by Fritz Hoffmann La Roche in Switzerland. Roche is controlled by the Hoffmann-Oeri’s family. The company is a global leader in diagnostics and pharmaceuticals.
- The SAP(Systemanalyse Und Programmentwicklung): Founded in 1972 by Claus Wellenreuther, Dietmar Hopp, Hans Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner and Klaus Tschira in Germany. SAP has been led by the Plattner and Hopp’s families. Hasso Plattner, one of the co-founders, has been key figure in the company’s leadership.
- The Samsung Group: It was established in 1938 in South Korea. Samsung has been led by the Lee family for several generations. Mr. Lee Byung-chul masterminded the company and his descendants have egged on leading it to the most coveted, most enviable and most zenith placed cutting edge pedestal under the sun, here on planet earth.
- The Tata Group: It was masterminded in 1868 by Mr. Jamsetji Tata in India. The Tata Group is controlled by the Tata’s family. It is a diversified conglomerate with interests in automotive, hospitality, steel and telecommunications.
- The Toyota Motor Corporation: It was masterminded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937. The Toyota Motor Corporation has been led by the Kiichiro Toyoda’s family. Globally, the Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the largest automobile manufacturers and reputed for its Toyota Production System.
13.The Walmart: Mr. Sam Walton in 1962 masterminded the Walmart. Walmart remains largely controlled by the company’s successes have made the Waltons one of the most affluent families globally.
