The National government of Kenya has agreed to provide construction materials necessary for the rehabilitation of the Lake Kanyaboli dyke, which burst on Sunday causing flooding in Siaya and Busia Counties.

This was after a call by Busia County Governor Paul Otuoma on Tuesday, urging the national government to provide a conducive environment for the near Lake Kanyaboli residents.

“The National Government through Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa, has to be committed to dispatch National Youth Service personnel and provide them with necessary equipment to rehab the barrier.” Says Otuoma during a Joint Disaster Committee meeting between Busia, Siaya, and Lake Agro Limited.

The Busia county commissioner, Kipchumba Rutto has joined hands with the deputy county commissioner, Robert Ng’etich to over a quick compensation to the affected communities.

Areas of intervention that need to be acted upon have been identified by the joint government to ensure the safety of the residents.
