Nyamira county elected leaders have criticized the government for canceling a public rally in which deputy president William Ruto was to preside over a fundraiser in aid of youths.

The leaders who included West Mugirango and Kitutu Masaba constituency legislators Vincent Kemosi and Shadrack Mose claimed the area top security had been informed of the meeting and endorsed it.

According to the lawmakers, even if political meetings were banned by the government, the one for the DP should have been exempted.

They vowed to ensure the meeting was held in the future to empower the youths.

Kemosi claimed he had held a meeting with the area county commissioner and agreed that the meeting will proceed.

Mose also claimed the function had been postponed due to the covid19 spike and that it should have been allowed for the sake of assisting the youth.

Police had dispersed people early in the morning who had come for the meeting in Nyamira and at some roadside points where the DP was expected to address them.
