Breaking News: Rigathi Gachagua is Ruto’s Running Mate

Deputy President William Ruto has chosen Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running partner in the forthcoming August Presidential election.

Announcing his running partner decision on Sunday, Ruto praised Gachagua as “an intelligent debator, a successful elected politician who is a principled, resilient and brave warrior for the right cause.”

Biography

Education:

Kabiruini Primary School’s Early Childhood Education Program,  Kirinyaga High School: both O- and A-levels. He graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Literature. In 1990, he went on to complete Paramilitary Training at the Administration Police Institute in Washington, DC. Between 1999 and 2000, he attended the Kenya School of Government’s Advanced Public Administration Course.

Eearly professional years:

From 1990 to 1992, he served as a District Officer Cadet in the Office of the President. The following year, in 1991, he was promoted to the position of Personal Assistant to the Chief of the Public Service. From 1997 to 1999, he was the District Officer in Charge of the Ng’arua Division of the Laikipia District.

When he was Minister of Local Government, he worked as Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistant. Rigathi Gachagua served as Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistant for four years, from 2002 to 2006. In 2002, Mr. Kenyatta and Mr. Gachagua traveled the nation together as Kanu presidential candidates.

Mr. Gachagua has held Mathira Constituency Member of Parliament position since 2017.
