Sadness and fear have covered Njoro in Nakuru County after a Grade Six pupil was found dead just hours after disappearing from home.
The 12-year-old girl, Mercy Nyambura, left for school like any other normal day. Her family expected her to return home in the evening, but sadly, she never came back. As darkness fell, panic started growing in the family. Neighbors and villagers joined hands to search for the young girl through the night.
The following day, the search ended in tears after her body was discovered in a nearby maize plantation. The shocking news left residents speechless, with many struggling to believe that such a young and innocent child could lose her life in such a painful way.
People who knew Mercy described her as a quiet, humble, and hardworking pupil who loved school and dreamed of having a bright future. Her classmates and teachers were left heartbroken after learning about her tragic death.
Residents gathered at the family’s home in pain and anger, demanding justice for the young girl. Many parents said the incident has increased fear among families, especially for children who walk to and from school alone.
Police officers have started investigations and promised to hunt down those responsible for the cruel act. Leaders in the area have also asked the community to stay united and help security officers with any information that may help in finding the killers.
As the family prepares to bury their daughter, tears continue to flow in the village. What was supposed to be another normal school day sadly turned into a painful tragedy that the people of Nakuru will not forget anytime soon.
