Speaking to the media in Nyamira, Mudavadi claimed that his announcement at the ANC National Delegates Conference would have a significant impact on Kenya’s political landscape and his own political destiny.
To be a part of the history that would be created, Mudavadi asked Kenyans to make sure they were near a television set on the day of the event.
“Sitaki kutoa siri zote sahii sababu nitakuwa nimetoa utamu na ladha, lakini siku hiyo ANC itatoa msimamo ambao utakuwa kama msisimko wa wa ardhi katika siasa za Kenya,” Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi, on the other hand, claimed he was unconcerned that other OKA pricipals were equally interested in the presidency.
He cautioned Kenyans against reading too much into it, pointing that that KANU had already declared its presidential candidate prior to a joint nomination process.
Even after rejecting that DP Ruto was courting Mudavadi to form a coalition ahead of the elections, all eyes are now on Mudavadi, who has yet to declare a political statement.
ANC members that defected to Raila’s Azimio La Umoja Movement from Mudavadi’s Mudavadi lately included Nabulindo, deputy party head Ayub Savula in Lugari, Godfrey Osotsi, Oku Kaunya in Teso North and Christopher Aseka in Khwisero.
The former deputy prime minister’s political prospects are waning, therefore he’s looking to reinvent himself as a presidential candidate seven months before the election.
Kalonzo Musyoka, the head of the Wiper party, has already put his name up as a candidate to replace outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta.
With their eyes set on the president, others include Raila Odinga (Azio La Umoja), William Ruto (UDA), Mwangi wa Iria (Governor), and Alfred Mutua (Machakos Governor).
