Chaos erupted on Tuesday evening following a clash between supporters of Kisii County Governor Simba Arati and those of South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro during Paul Ayiema’s father’s funeral ceremony in South Mugirango at Gesonso Primary School grounds.
Trouble began after Kisii County Speaker Philip Nyanumba breached protocol by inviting Governor Arati to address mourners instead of Sylvanus Osoro.
This sparked outrage from supporters of the area MP over what they termed as a plot to deny the area MP.
Youths armed with crude weapons accompanied Osoro towards Arati for a show down to express their displeasure.
Mourners were forced to flee in various directions during the chaos.
This forced security officers to swing into action to avert a possible exchange of blows and kicks between the two leaders and their supporters.
Hell however broke loose after rowdy youth penetrated through the crowd threatening to attack the mourners as they scampered for safety, forcing the funeral to end prematurely.
The two leaders were later on whisked away by their security handlers to avoid further confrontations.
A similar incident was witnessed on 1st February 2021 during a funeral ceremony in Bomachoge Chache where Arati and Osoro exchanged blows in front of President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
