The Authority noted that the damage is particularly evident on the lane heading towards Suswa, where heavy trucks have placed immense pressure on the road surface over the years.
To curb the problem, KeRRA revealed that it has installed the Ngong-Suswa-Ewaso Kedong Virtual Weighbridge to detect overloaded vehicles and enforce compliance with axle load regulations under the Traffic Act.
“This is evident on the right side of the road as you go to Suswa. Therefore, to address this, the Authority has installed a virtual weighbridge (Ngong-Suswa-Ewaso-Kedong Virtual Weighbridge) to detect overloaded vehicles,” the agency added.
The Authority further stated that motorists found violating the prescribed load limits have already been arrested and charged, warning that enforcement will continue as part of efforts to protect the national road asset.
KeRRA also clarified that maintenance works are being carried out in phases to address pavement distress caused by overloading while ensuring minimal disruption to traffic.
The clarification comes on the back of mounting criticism from Kenyans, particularly motorists, over the condition of the road despite the billions of shillings spent on its construction.
