A somber mood has engulfed Sinendet sub-location in Njoro, Nakuru County, following the brutal defilement and murder of Mercy Nyambura Mureithi, a 12-year-old Grade Six pupil at Sinendet Primary School. Mercy went missing on Monday morning, May 18, 2026, after leaving home for school at around 8:00 AM. When she failed to return home that evening, her panicked father alerted Area Chief Mwangi Kiaraho at 7:30 PM, prompting a frantic overnight search by worried villagers. The desperate search ended in heartbreak on Tuesday when her body was found hidden deep inside a local maize plantation. Local authorities state that the young learner was tortured and strangled; her body bore severe head injuries, a heavily bruised neck, and her left eye had been gouged out.
