Fuel Shock as EPRA Raises Diesel by KSh46, Petrol by KSh16 per litre

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority has announced new fuel prices for the May 15th 2026 cycle, with diesel recording a sharp increase of KSh 46.29 per litre while super petrol has gone up by KSh 16.65 per litre. Kerosene prices remain unchanged.
EPRA said the increase was caused by rising international landed costs of imported fuel products, especially diesel, whose import cost rose by more than 20 percent during the review period.
EPRA attributed the increase to rising global oil prices and higher landed costs of imported petroleum products. The government says it will use about KSh 5 billion from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) Fund to cushion consumers from even higher prices.
The announcement has sparked reactions from Kenyans online, with many expressing concern over the expected rise in transport fares and cost of living.
