The Nurses strike which commenced on December 7, 2020 was called off following a court order. All members were expected to report back to work immediately as explained by Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary-General Seth Panyako.
Seth Panyako also added that they will keep pushing for their demands. “KNUN will ensure they recover what they lost. No single nurse died of COVID-19 when we were on strike,” Panyako said in a part.
The nurses’ strike was called off 79 days later after the Court order on Monday issued by Justice Maureen Onyango.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the government is committed to ensuring continuity of services during this pandemic.
“We have been working to arrive at a decision with clinical officers….Let us not lose sight of the need to serve our people during this pandemic. Many thanks to our healthcare workers,” Mutahi added.
