A high-level Steering Committee meeting was held today May 13, 2025 in Nairobi to review progress on the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit–Eldoret–Malaba Road expansion project, one of Kenya’s most strategic infrastructure initiatives. The session, chaired by Dr. Chris Kiptoo, Principal Secretary at the National Treasury, brought together key government leaders to assess implementation milestones and inter-agency coordination.
The project, a vital component of Kenya’s Northern Corridor, is instrumental in enhancing connectivity between the Port of Mombasa and landlocked East and Central African nations, including Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The expansion is expected to significantly boost regional trade, ease cargo movement, and spur economic development along the corridor.
In attendance were Principal Secretaries Alex Wachira (Energy), Eng. Joseph Mbugua (Roads), Julius Korir (Water), as well as Solicitor General Hon. Shadrack Mose. They were joined by senior officials from various state departments, underscoring the project’s cross-sectoral importance.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Kiptoo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering on this flagship Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, which aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 goals and regional integration agenda.
The road upgrade, stretching from Nairobi through Nakuru, Mau Summit, Eldoret to Malaba, is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety, and create thousands of jobs during and after construction.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge from all stakeholders to fast-track the project and ensure timely delivery of its economic and social benefits.
