On 6th Thursday night the Kenya National Assembly passed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Amendment Bill 2020. The number of members of the house who attended the voting process in the second reading was 365.
A total number of 235 members overwhelmingly voted for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) while 83 members voted against the Bill. Two members of the house out of the 365 members present did not participate in the voting process
During the voting process in the third reading, 224 members of the house passed the bill while 63 members voted against the Bill. Two members of the house did not participate in the voting process.
The voting was most likely depended on political lines because most members who voted against the bill were allies of Deputy President William Ruto with a few passing the Bill.
Likewise, the allies of BBI co-principals President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga, mostly passed the BBI Bill.
After the National Assembly voting process, the other House of the Parliament, the Senate, is also expected to conduct a voting process for the BBI bill next week and if the Bill passes that will pave way for a referendum process.
