A TURNING POINT

Written by on June 3, 2025

Life is filled with moments that quietly shape who we become, but some events stand out; bold and unmistakable as turning points. These are moments that shift our direction, challenge our beliefs or awaken something new in us. Whether planned or unexpected, a turning point leaves a lasting impact on our journey. According to Maria Tomas Keegan, A turning point happens when something changes direction, and it causes you to make a choice. It’s the moment you decide that you need to make a shift and respond differently. It could be that what was happening before is no longer what you want to happen in the future.

For me, a turning point in my life was back in the year 2022, when I joined campus. Transitioning from high school to university life was not just a change in environment- it was a powerful shift in how I saw the world, and myself.

Growing up, my world was small and familiar. Life followed a routine, school, home, and occasional social activities. But when I stepped into campus life, everything felt new and overwhelming. The freedom, the diversity, the expectations- it was a lot to take in. Yet, it was in that chaos that I found myself beginning to grow.

Campus exposed me to different people, cultures, and ideas. I met students from all walks of life, each with unique stories, dreams, and backgrounds. Through conversations, group work, and shared experiences, I began to see the world differently. I learned to appreciate perspectives outside my own and to challenge beliefs I had long taken for granted.

Academically, I was pushed to question, think critically, write and to speak. I was no longer just memorizing facts; I was being trained to think, analyze, and to express myself clearly. This not only sharpened my mind but also my confidence. Outside the classroom, campus life taught me on managing time, budgeting money, living with others and making choices. I became more independent, more self-aware and on more focused on what I wanted to become. Campus life became the foundation on which I began building a more informed, confident, and mature version of myself.

Joining campus was truly a turning point. It didn’t just change where I studied and environment but also it changed how I think, how I live and who I am becoming. It opened eyes, expanded my world, and gave me a deeper understanding of life itself.
