BATTLE LINES DRAWN BETWEEN RUTO AND UHURU AMID 2027 ELECTIONS TALK.

Tensions are slowly building up in the political circles of Kenya with new lines drawn between the current president William Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as the next general election draws near.
Analysts claim that new political exchanges between supporters of both leaders have led to speculation that the rivalry could influence the political future of Mt Kenya – one of the country’s major political factions.
Based on reports, allies of the Kenyan president recently fired back at political supporters of his predecessor who have been making provocative comments lately. They say that the renewed political fight resembles the heated exchange which took place during the final years of Kenyatta’s rule.
Allies to Rivals
William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta have been perceived as political allies for quite a long time. These politicians formed the famous Jubilee Alliance which led to their joint win in the 2013 and 2017 elections. They’ve been called the strongest political pair in the recent history of the country.
However, everything changed when the well-known 2018 handshake between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, the head of the opposition, took place. The political event calmed the political atmosphere but led to the split in the party. According to reports, allies of President Ruto claimed that there were attempts made to undermine his power before the upcoming election in the government.
As a result of this development, Jubilee broke up, with Ruto founding his United Democratic Alliance that helped him become president of Kenya in 2022.
Why Mt Kenya Is Important
Political analysts say that the current fight is mostly about gaining control over Mt Kenya – one of the biggest constituencies in the country and a vital player in presidential elections.
During the last elections, President Ruto managed to get immense support from this constituency, pledging economic reforms and declaring himself as its main political figure after the departure of former president Uhuru Kenyatta from the power.
However, as new political developments show, some leaders affiliated with the former president might attempt to reclaim control in this constituency ahead of the 2027 election, which provoked harsh responses from Ruto’s supporters.
Political Confrontations
The emerging confrontations between rivals can mean that Kenya has entered a new period of political tension, considering that the elections are yet to take place few years from now.
Observers warn that heated exchanges between rival camps may trigger political tension across the country. At the same time, supporters of both leaders argue that political competition is normal in a democratic society.
Many Kenyans are now observing closely to see whether the Mt Kenya region will remain loyal to President Ruto or whether new alliances will come out before 2027.
The Bigger Picture
Beyond political diffrences, many Kenyans are more concerned about the economy, cost of living, unemployment, and service delivery. Critics argue that leaders should focus more on solving the everyday struggles facing ordinary Kenyans instead of engaging in early political battles.
Still, Kenyan politics have always been deeply rooted in alliances, regional support, and shifting loyalties. As 2027 slowly comes closer, the relationship between William Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta is once again becoming a major topic in the national conversation.
Whether the renewed tensions will reshape Kenya’s political landscape remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — the battle for influence has already started.
