As the fight against the consumption of illicit alcohol and drug abuse continues in Kirinyaga County, almost 800 people have been arrested by security agencies.

Speaking in Kerugoya on Thursday county commissioner Naiyoma Tobiko said an operation is ongoing across the county targeting to root out illegal drugs including bhang and illicit brews.

“We have confiscated about 800 litres of second-generation alcohol and more than 1,500 litres of illicit alcohol.”

“The main reason for carrying out this is because of the well-documented harm that drug abuse is doing across region,” said Tobiko.

Tobiko added that National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) under his command have been given strict instructions to go hard on those involved in the illegal drug trade, particularly producers, distributors, and sellers.

“Kirinyaga County government will not relent on the war against drugs and illicit alcohol,” he added.

It is everyone’s responsibility to fight this threat for the betterment of our society.
