Opposition leader Raila Odinga has announced that the anti-government protests that began on Monday will continue every Monday and Thursday from next week.
Addressing the media on Tuesday at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi, Odinga described the protests held yesterday in Nairobi and other parts of the country as “immensely successful”, insisting that he would not bow down until President William Ruto heeds to their demands.
Mr. Odinga accused the police of causing the chaos and violence that was witnessed during the protests, which he says claimed the lives of two people and left several others injured.
“Many of the demonstrators got hurt and at least two innocent Kenyans were killed in cold blood by the police. We pass our sincere condolences to the families that lost their loved ones to police brutality. We will stand with those families in all ways including pursuing justice for their loved ones,” said Odinga.
He further claimed there was an attempt on his life and that of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka by police who allegedly shot at their vehicles.
“There was an attempt on the life of both Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. Their cars were shot at but luckily they were unharmed,” said Odinga.
He singled out Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei, saying local and international cases would be filed against him.
“In this regard, we decry the silence of IPOA and KNHCR of Ruto’s misuse of police. We are going for individual responsibility and culpability against officers who acted against the Constitution. So far we have a case to file individual charges against Mr. Adamson Bungei. We will press these charges locally and internationally,” said Odinga.
“This struggle is just starting we are not looking back. We will not be intimidated. No retreat no surrender,” insisted the opposition chief.
