Police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene and mounted efforts to contain the blaze, although they reportedly encountered difficulties as the flames spread across the affected structures.
The incident has renewed concerns over a rise in cases of student unrest in schools across the country, with authorities expected to launch investigations into both the cause of the fire and the reported unrest.
Dormitory fires have become increasingly common across the country in recent months, leading to school closures and causing concern among parents, teachers, and education stakeholders.
Two days ago, Chianda Boys School in Siaya County was closed indefinitely after a dormitory fire incident, coming less than a month after a similar incident in the school amid student unrest.
The fire reportedly left 113 learners displaced, with affected students losing all their personal belongings in the fire. According to reports, no injuries or fatalities have been recorded, with all students safely accounted for after the fire.
Earlier, unrest broke out at Nyabisase Mixed Secondary School in Kisii County, where students reportedly clashed with teachers before a dormitory was set ablaze, with videos of the confrontation circulating widely online.
Following the incident, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba ordered a probe into the incident, warning that those responsible for acts of violence and destruction of school property would face the full force of the law.
