A family from Murang’a was most hit by Sunday’s tragic road accident at Kikopei, which claimed four of their immediate members. The dead include the grandparents and their four daughters, as well as nephews and uncles. Another family also lost a mother and her daughter in that midday crash. The families are now counting on the healing of three members who survived the accident.

Inside the Matatu were 16 other closely related family members, 14 adults and two children. That journey was fatally halted when the Matatu collided head-on with a trailer. In its wake, a family nearly decimated. Patrick Mburu is counting immense losses. In that vehicle were his parents, Elijah and Lydia Mburu, his sisters, Pauline, Naomi, Joyce and Catherine, his nephew Elijah, and his uncle.

The heavy weight of this loss hangs over the home in Kandara, Murang’a. Family, neighbors, and friends are trying to wrap their minds around the tragedy that nearly decimated this family.13 casualties were confirmed while at the hospital, survivors continue to fight for their lives. Two adults and a nine-year-old child are receiving treatment. Their families praying and hoping that they will live to tell the tale of that accident.

The deceased bodies are currently preserved at the Nakuru mortuary as they await post-mortem examination before the families begin funeral and burial plans.
