Martha Koome Nominated for the position of Chief Justice

Martha Koome Karambu has been nominated by The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for the position of Chief Justice. Out of the ten applicants Martha emerged the best candidate.
Martha name will be forwarded to the President for appointment and thereafter to the National Assemblyfor the vetting process. If Koome will be pass the process and successfully appointed, she will therefore be the first female to be the head of Judiciary.
Martha is 61 years old and has served as a legal practitioner, as a Judge of the High Court and as a Judge of The Court of Appeal for more than 20 years. She also has an LL.B. from the University of Nairobi and an LL.M in Public International Law from the University of London.
The announcement of her as the CJ Nominee was made by Judicial Service Commissioner Chairperson, Prof. Olive Mugenda on Tuesday, April 27 in brief meeting with journalists. Mugenda said that their duty was to select the best candidate and they did.
