Ten families in Arujo, Homa Bay County, had to sleep on the streets on Wednesday night after a fire destroyed their rented homes.
According to sources, the fire erupted in one of the homes around 8 p.m. and quickly spread to the other nine, destroying six of them completely.
Some of the inhabitants of the ten-door building were still out and about doing their daily chores when the blaze broke out, according to landlord Margaret Anyango.
However, according to Anyango, the fire was so strong that they were only able to save two mattresses and a gas cylinder from two residences, and everything else was consumed in the conflagration.
Area Chief Bob Lang’o confirmed the occurrence, but said the source of the blaze could not be immediately determined.
As Lang’o has verified, no one was hurt in the fire, and the well-wishers have been asked for humanitarian aid.
Some of the families whose homes were destroyed in the fire have appealed for help, saying they are stuck and have nowhere to sleep.
