Government fails to resolve lecturers stalemate-Kalonzo

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized the Kenya Kwanza government for failing to address the concerns of lecturers who have been on strike for the third week. Kalonzo accused the government of not being keen on resolving the crisis facing the education sector, citing delayed capitation and confusion over a new funding model.
Speaking at the Wiper Party headquarters, where over 200 university students gathered, Kalonzo called on youths to register as voters and support the opposition bid to take over leadership in 2027. The students were affected by the lecturers’ strike.
“The government’s failure to resolve this stalemate clearly shows a regime not keen on resolving the crisis facing the education sector,” Kalonzo said. “Thousands of bright students who qualified for universities are languishing at home due to lack of school fees as a result of the new funding model.”
Kalonzo also questioned the delay in disbursement of capitation funds, which is causing disruption in the education sector. He further accused the head of state of abusing his office by gifting money to thousands who visit state houses, instead of addressing pressing issues like the education crisis.
The opposition leader’s remarks come as the education sector continues to face challenges, with the lecturers’ strike entering its third week. The situation has raised concerns about the future of the sector, with all eyes on the education cabinet secretary and the president to arrest the situation as quickly as possible.
The question remains whether the government will take heed of the criticism and work towards resolving the crisis, or if the situation will continue to escalate.
