An organization by the name Transform Empowerment for Action Movement (TEAM) has embarked on training Youth in Nyamira County to get actively involved in matters politics and governance.
Speaking during a training session conducted in Nyamira, an instructor from the organization by the name, Maureen, observed that the youth form the majority of the population however only a handful are playing a role in putting leaders to accountability.
“It is unfortunate that the majority of the youth do not even vote. Remember if you don’t vote, you have indirectly voted and most probably for the wrong person,” urged Maureen.
The organization is targeting various youth groups beginning from primary schools to tertiary institutions. They will be conducting activities aimed at empowering the youth with necessary knowledge and skills to be involved in matters of governance and the fight against corruption.
Jared Wilberforce, a youth living with disability, observed that the youth are facing significant challenges as they fight for political space. “We do not have enough funds. Unfortunately the few youth who get opportunity do minimal to have our interests represented. Especially for us living with disability, we just feel left out in these county governments,” Lamented Wilberforce.
