A Cry For Justice

The family of Benedict Kabiru, a Kenyan police officer who went missing during an ambush in Haiti in March, is demanding answers after President William Ruto confirmed that Benedict is among the three officers who died while on duty in the troubled Caribbean nation.
The announcement, made at a high level meeting on Haiti in New York, has left the Kabiru family in shock. For months, they had clung to hope that their son was still alive, following assurances from senior security officials that the search for him was ongoing.
But the mention of Kabiru’s name alongside two other fallen officers broke that hope. His mother, Jacinta, says the family deserves the truth.
“Why are they torturing me? Let them bring the remains of my son so that I can see for myself. We trusted them with Benedict, and now we are being kept in the dark,” she said in tears.
Kabiru’s disappearance has left nothing but a tonne of pain. His daughter, who was set to join university this September, has had to burry her dream of studying economics due to lack of school fees.
The family, which has sued the government for failing to provide information on his whereabouts, is now questioning when exactly Kabiru died.
Their case against the state is scheduled for hearing this Wednesday at the Milimani Law Courts, even as they continue to push for the repatriation of his remains for burial.
