Kisii & Kilifi Counties – A cloud of grief has engulfed two primary schools in Kisii and Kilifi counties following the tragic deaths of two students under disturbing circumstances, prompting investigations and sparking public outrage.

In Kisii County, police have launched a thorough investigation after a Grade 7 pupil at St. Mary’s Mosocho Boys’ Primary School suddenly collapsed and died. The student, identified as Hansen Michael, reportedly fell unconscious and passed away shortly thereafter.

The incident sparked outrage among parents, who stormed the school demanding answers. The situation escalated, disrupting normal learning activities and forcing security officers to intervene to restore order. As of now, the school administration has not issued a detailed report on the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. Hansen’s body has since been preserved at the Mosocho Hospital morgue.

Meanwhile, in Kilifi County, a teacher at Gongoni Primary School has been accused of causing the death of a 15-year-old Grade 8 girl, Anestine, following an alleged assault.

According to Kilifi South Assistant County Commissioner Mohamed Yusuf, the student returned home complaining of severe headaches but did not reveal the cause. Her condition worsened, and she was rushed to Kilifi Referral Hospital, where she later died.

A postmortem examination revealed that Anestine succumbed to internal bleeding caused by a blunt force injury to the head. Family members claim the pain began after she returned from school, alleging that she was punished along with other students but was later singled out and struck on the head after murmuring in protest.

Though initially treated and discharged, Anestine’s condition deteriorated, necessitating her admission to the intensive care unit, where she eventually passed away.

The grieving family is now calling for justice, demanding accountability for the young girl’s tragic death.
