27-Year-Old Woman Killed After Elephant Tramples Her in Samburu’s Kirisia Forest

A 27-year-old woman died after being attacked by an elephant in Samburu County. She was returning home from Maralal Town when the incident happened.

Police and Kenya Wildlife Service officers said the woman, Veronica Lesajore was hurt at around 7:00 pm on June 6, 2026,as she was crossing Kirisia Forest on her way to Lpartuk 2 village.

Kenya Wildlife serviceofficers and police responded to the scene and confirmed that it was a fatal elephant attack. The area was secured and investigated before her body was taken to the Samburu County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

This tragedy highlights how human-wildlife conflict continues to affect communities in parts of Samburu County. Many people and wild animals share the same grazing areas and movement routes, putting lives at risk especially where elephants move through villages and forests.

Police told the family to file a compensation claim. Since the death is being treated as a wildlife-related incident, KWS officers based in Maralal are carrying out further investigations.
