The DCI summons Jimi Wanjigi and demands that he turn over ten firearms and 480 rounds of ammunition to him.

Jimi Wanjigi, a businessman, has been called by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and told to surrender 10 weapons and over 480 rounds of ammunition he has within the next 72 hours.

The DCI said in a summons sent out on Monday that the merchant was in unlawful possession of guns and lacked a firearm certificate.

Police Superintendent Kuriah Obadiah from the Directorate’s In-charge Serious Crime Unit stated, “This criminal investigation has established that you hold 10 (10) Firearms of different makes and description as described below and which act of possession is in contravention of the law as on 5th December 2018 the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr. Fred Matiangi gave a Moratorium for Mandatory Vetting of Civilian Firearms Holders.”

As of this writing, there is no proof or indication that you have attended the Mandatory Vetting as mandated by the Cabinet Secretary.”

Wanjigi was also slammed by the DCI for failing to appear before the Firearms Licensing Board for the screening on November 26, 2013.

A CQ, Glock, Ceska pistol, shotgun, Glock 19, and a Gilboa are just a few of the weapons the businessman is suspected of unlawfully owning.

According to the DCI, after a recent raid on Wanjigi’s Nairobi office Kwacha House, an armed ex-GSU officer formerly assigned to the RECCE squad is now serving as Wanjigi’s bodyguard.

Note: “The fact that you have assembled highly trained personnel in the use of guns for ulterior objectives indicates a high level conspiracy,” said the warning.

According to the letter, “The Firearms and Ammunition locations are unknown and might be in the hands of Criminal Gangs as evidenced by the arming of an ex-GSU officer within the premises of a Company you completely control.”

For this reason, the George Kinoti-led DCI demanded that all guns and ammunition be turned up to the undersigned at the agency’s Mazingira Complex offices on Kiambu Road within 72 hours of receipt of this notice.

Furthermore, Wanjigi must appear in person at the DCI headquarters within the same timeframe, or face prosecution.
