Omwando was picked by a team of detectives from his house at 5 in the evening while Imbuya was arrested from Agriculture Training Centre (ATC) in Kisii where he had gone to attend a leaders consultative meeting ahead of Mashujaa Day which is to be celebrated in the region on Tuesday.

The function will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta whose arriving Monday to launch various state-funded projects ahead of the state function.

Four more people, mainly bloggers, were arrested from restaurants around Kisii town by detectives.

Family members said the arrests were desperate to move by the state to intimidate innocent citizens.

They were yet to record statements with the police by the time Star went for publication.

A police officer at the station, however, told the Star they would prefer incitement to violence charges against them when they haul them to court.

The suspects, he said, were plotting to cause mayhem during the Mashujaa Day fete.

“We received orders from above to have them arrested, we are still investigating the possible motive of causing violence during the upcoming national event,” said the officer.

Outside Kisii Central Police Station, family members who waited deplored the arrests saying they were politically instigated.

Meshack Oyondi, Omwando ‘s son said the charges are being fabricated because his father ditched ODM for the Tangatanga movement.

” This appears to had set him on a collision course with some senior figures in the government,” said Oyondi.

Calvin Machoka, his other son, said they had not been told the reasons for their father’s arrest.

” No officer is willing to tell even the charges they would prefer on him. All we know as a family is that he is innocent, “he added.

Machoka rubbished off claims that members of the Tangatanga wing were planning to disrupt a state function.

” “Who on earth can care to cause chaos at such a function which has in its disposal all state machinery to deal with any crook? This is just someone our to square out something with him,” added Machoka.

Kisii County Police Commander Jebel Munene did not pick calls when Radio Vuna contacted him for comment.
