It’s now clear that Rigathi Gachagua, the Kenya kwanzas deputy president-designate will be attending the 19th of July debate that will happen in Nairobi at CUEA.

The confirmation was manifested after Gachagua attended the rules of the debate briefing at the catholic university of east africa{cuea}on Monday 18th July.”I have made a decision to come for the debate. I think there will be people watching who I haven’t had a chance to explain myself. I would ask the media to give all candidates a fair chance to explain themselves.” He said. Kenyans were in a dilemma following the announcement of the Kenya kwanzas communications director about the UDA party deputy president designated to attend the tuesdays debate.

“Whether or not the candidate or the deputy will appear, is a matter that now firmly rests with them. I and the team gave them advice based on the current media environment. That advice was actually legitimized by the monitoring report of the month of June by the Media Council of Kenya; that the other people (Azimio) are enjoying 61 percent of coverage,” said Hussein Mohammed.

The communications director of Kenya kwanzaq{hussein Mohamed, former citizens news anchor} had earlier complained about the media houses giving the Azimio coalition 61 percent of airtime, unlike Kenya kwanza. He stated that they were no need for biasedness and if so they should clearly;y state that they are supporting the other coalition fully in terms of coverage.

The first-tier debate featuring candidates who have polled less than 5 percent in three recent opinion polls will be moderated by Linda Alela of TV47 and John Jacob Kioria of KBC. The deputy presidential designates will be Ruth Mutua of the Agano party and Justina Wamae. The second tier featuring candidates above 5 percent will be moderated by Sophia Wanuna of KTN News and James Smart of NTV. The candidates will be Martha Karua of the Azimio coalition and Gachagua Rgathi of the Kenya kwanza coalition. Both discussions will be moderated by Trevor Ombija of citizen tv.

“Under the rules of the presidential debates, the moderators will select the questions to be asked, and shall not share the same with the candidates. They will not meet with any of the campaign teams or the candidates,” the statement signed by the Presidential Debate secretary, Clifford Machoka stated.

THE FIRST tier is scheduled to start at 6 pm on Tuesday of July o 7:30,the second tier starts from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. The 100 strong journalists from Various media houses will be broadcasting the whole event. The whole event is expected to end at 10:00 PM.
