President William Ruto announced a comprehensive reshuffle of his Cabinet on Wednesday night, focusing on mergers and restructuring within the government ministries.
One of the prominent changes includes the expansion of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, which now includes the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, under the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi.
Moses Kuria, the former Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, has been reassigned to the newly reconstituted Ministry of Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management. Alfred Mutua, the former head of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, will now lead the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
President Ruto has introduced the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage, with Aisha Jumwa appointed to oversee it. Furthermore, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts, and Sports has been renamed the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with Ababu Namwamba retaining his role as its head.
Rebecca Miano will head the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, while Peninah Malonza will be in charge of the Ministry of East African Community, the ASALs (Arid and Semi-Arid Lands), and Regional Development. Alice Wahome will lead the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, swapping positions with Zachariah Njeru, who takes charge of the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation.
In addition to the changes in ministries, President Ruto has also reorganized Principal Secretaries as part of this restructuring:
Harsama Kello now oversees the State Department for the ASALs and Regional Development. Julius Korir is in charge of the State Department for Water and Sanitation. Geoffrey Kaituko is responsible for the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs. Shadrack Mwadime is in Labour and Skills Development, Paul Ronoh is in Crops Development, Idris Salim Dokota is in Cabinet Affairs, Anne Wang’ombe is in Gender and Affirmative Action, and Veronic Nduva is in Performance and Delivery Management.
