LSK SUE LINTURI AND RONO OVER SUBSTANDARD FERTILIZER

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has initiated legal proceedings against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and Principal Secretary Kello Harsama Rono over allegations of distributing substandard fertilizer. The lawsuit highlights serious concerns about the quality and safety of agricultural inputs provided to farmers, which is crucial for the nation’s food security and economic stability.

The controversy erupted after numerous complaints from farmers who reported adverse effects on their crops due to the alleged substandard fertilizer distributed under a government subsidy program. Farmers from various regions claimed that the fertilizer had significantly lower nutrient content than advertised, leading to poor crop yields and financial losses. These claims prompted the LSK to step in, arguing that the distribution of substandard fertilizer not only violates consumer protection laws but also undermines the trust of the farming community in government-led agricultural initiatives.

LSK’s lawsuit contends that both Linturi and Rono failed in their duties to ensure the quality of agricultural inputs. However, the LSK remains steadfast in its position, insisting that immediate action is necessary to prevent further harm to the agricultural sector.
