KENYA PREPARES FOR THE 58TH MADARAKA CELEBRATIONS

Our country will be celebrating its 58^th Madaraka day since its first ever that was on 1^st June 1963. This year’s Madaraka day celebrations would add up to the commemorations of that day when Kenya attained internal self-rule after being a British colony since 1920.This year’s Madaraka is set to be at Kisumu county at the New Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium. It would mark the first Madaraka day celebration to be held in Kisumu County-the Lake side City to host National Celebrations. These celebrations were initially held in Nairobi until the Jubilee regime revised the trend of rotating the celebrations in counties.

This year’s Madaraka day celebrations chief guest is Burundian president Evariste Ndayishimiye, who was well received at Kisumu International Airport marking his two-day official visit to Kenya.

The stadium is bee hived with activities ranging from tent pitching to décor set up for those expected to perform, parade inspection preparations where Burundis’ president took part in the rehearsals among other activities. The Kisumu county New Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium has a capacity of 20,000  but will now accommodate only 3,000 invited guest due to the Ministry of health guidelines as stated by state house spokesperson Kanze Dena  

Kisumu County Commissioner Magu Mutindika said that the Ministry of health has put in place a surveillance team to ensure the invitees comfort to covid-19 containment protocols. The county government has also secured face masks to be distributed to the attendees and those entering the venue will be screened and sufficient hand washing water points will be put in place as well as sanitizers. .It’s just the other day that a new variant of covid-19 was reported in Kisumu .
