High turnout of students in Kisii schools as school reopens

90 percent of students across Kisii county reported back to school on the first day of school reopening after a long break of eight months.
Kisii county director of Education Pius Ngoma said a number of students have reported in many schools without experiencing any crises.
“We have received the alerts that a good number of students have reported back to school and we are anticipating having a hundred percentage of the initial number of students back to school. “Said Ngoma.
He noted the students are well prepared full of energy to get back to school after a long break stay at home.
Ngoma noted those who have arrived at school have shown the impression of following the MOH guidelines on Covid 19 without letting teachers to follow them.
Ngoma said some of the schools have extra class rooms in case the number of new admissions of students increases.
However Ngoma noted few schools have received desks from the ministry due to high number of schools per constituency
At Kisii primary school head teacher Grace Nyamweya said in each class two to three students did not report on the first day and teachers are checking from parents and guardians on why those pupils did not report.
“Pupils started reporting as early as 5:00am in the morning especially in the upper classes, pupils are still coming and teachers have been attending lessons.
She noted the school has received few pupils for admission but they hope the students will increase as time goes.
