Illicit brews and substance abuse practices have not only posed a challenge to the county’s social, security and health progress but also threatened economic development in Kisii County.

Speaking during the 60th Madaraka day celebration in Kisii County at Kisii stadium, Kisii Central MCA Willfred Monyenye said that this has become a great obstacle to the development of Kisii County.

“Illicit brews are everywhere in our town. We need to join hands, and fight these drugs,” he said.

Governor Paul Simba Arati also warned leaders in the county who receive bribes, what has brought growth of trafficking and usage of illicit brews and substance abuse in the county.

Kisii County Commissioner, Tom Anjere also said that police officers receiving bribes from the illicit brew and other drug sellers will be dismissed from their offices.

“We have been fighting illicit brews in the county with our Governor and those police officers who are not participating in this fight will be dismissed. We are not going to transfer them. How can we transfer problem?” he said.

It is the responsibility of Kisii County residents to join hands and fight drug abuse.
