Learners who sat for Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) have packed their bags to embark on another education journey as admissions for junior secondary school students commence in most parts of the country.
In Kisii students are rejoicing in classes as most parents have taken their kin to various schools which are CBC regulations compliant as the junior secondary school (JSS) first term begins.
According to Kisii county education director Pius Ng’oma, a total of 744 schools have been approved to host Junior Secondary, of which 579 are public and 165 privately owned, with 124 schools mostly private not meeting the expectations of approval.
“A total of 32,233 students are expected to report to junior secondary after completing the KPSEA in 2022 national examinations by the end of admissions, we are expecting teachers who will teach under the CBC program be available in all schools” said Ng’oma
Some schools will act as host centers to students from other schools in the JSS program despite some parents reportedly been unable to buy school uniforms due to the current rise and rise of daily living standards.
The county director also said that books for grade 7 have already been received in various sub county offices and will be dispersed to schools.
“Despite a few challenges, our school head teachers will definitely cope up with them, we have received books in various sub county offices and also JSS teachers will be sent to various schools as soon as admissions are done,” added Pius Ng’oma.
Learners who are joining junior secondary which is domiciled in primary schools will receive a capitation of Ksh. 15,000 from the government, of which four thousand shillings is for infrastructure.
Most schools in the region have facilities in which laboratories will be started for learners to enjoy the full Junior Secondary program.
