50 LAWYERS TO DEFEND RUTO’S AGENDA

Ruto, a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), have picked 50 young attorneys to represent him and the party’s goals.
The team lead by UDA Secretary for Legal Affairs Edward Muriu, dubbed the “UDA Lawyers Brigade,” spoke to the public on Monday, December 20.

As a result of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s and his deputy, William Ruto’s leadership, sustaining the rule of law and protecting the Constitution has been a serious difficulty.

“There are roughly 50 attorneys in this group, led by William Samoei Ruto, who support the bottom-up economic approach and have donated their skills to the party as well as the Hustler Movement in exchange for their membership.

“Young lawyers are a critical component of the Bottom-Up economic model; therefore, as a political party, we have a responsibility to bring them together, expose people to prospective customers, give them difficult challenges, and mentor them to be bold soldiers fighting for democratic principles for the benefit of all hustlers in the republic,” Muiru said.

Initially, they will serve as protectors of the ordinary man against tyranny of the state.

MPs’ passage of the 2021 Political Parties (Amendment) Bill would open the door to the creation of coalitions prior to the 2022 General Election, one of the most contentious issues.

Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and President Kenyatta are claimed to have given their support to a bill introduced by Amos Kimunya of the Kenyan House of Representatives.

“It aims to replace political group with a coalition of political parties,” the measure states.

On the eve of the bill’s second reading, which would take place on December 21 & 22, UDA sympathizers questioned its timing. On Friday, December 10, Raila launched the Azimio la Umoja alliance movement, which has the backing of many local parties.

Ruto has long advised individuals who wish to join his UDA juggernaut to dissolve their political parties. He called coalition parties “tribal” in a statement.

In addition, the group of 50 attorneys is anticipated to perform pro bono cases, evaluate legal proceedings related to criminal law, tax law, and employment law disputes involving UDA ally lawmakers.

Aside from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Judiciary, and the Asset and Recovery Agency, Ruto has claimed that these independent entities have been utilized to thwart his political goals since his break with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He stated that those who supported him were also in the crosshairs of the authorities.

Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi, UDA Secretary General Veronica Maina and other young attorneys make up the group.

When it comes to the opposition to President Kenyatta’s Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Havi is a key player. She hopes to be elected to the Westlands Parliamentary seat for the UDA.

According to Havi, “The BBI bill which was an effort to dismember our Constitution was defeated.” The 50 attorneys were introduced by UDA on Monday, December 20.
